Cancer, the genesis of the element Water. If I could use a word for the definition of the first 4 signs, I would say that Aries is the impulse, Taurus is the firmness, Gemini is the movement and Cancer is the dread.

Here is Cancer for Sepher Yetzirah: “He made the letter Cheit king over sight, and He bound a crown to it, and He combined one with another, and with them He formed Cancer in the Universe, Tamuz in the Year, and the right hand in the Soul male and female.”.

In the wheel of the Zodiac, Cancer is the sign at the bottom part, the South. The c , is a door, a container, the uterus.

Having said that, Cancer can slide down into the water if does not fight its fears. Water is the symbol of emotions, Cancer is usually very emotional and these emotions may obfuscate its the vision. Think to the Moon, the Tarot Card. The crayfish looks at the dog and the wolf, undecided, confused by the scant light of the Moon and remains in the water.
