The Eye of God

‘Ain is one of the 12 Simple Letters: Time.

It is the sixteenth letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Its numerical value is 70.

‘Ain corresponds to the tenth diagonal path of the Tree of Life, the path which connects Bina to Tiferet.

Sepher Yetzirah says about ‘Ain: “He made the letter ‘Ain king over anger, and He bound a crown to it, and He combined one with another, and with them He formed Capricorn in the Universe, Tevet in the Year, and the liver in the Soul male and female.

‘Ain corresponds to the Astrological Sign of Capricorn.

Kabbalists say that ‘Ain is made out of a Vav inserted into a Nun.

‘Ain is the graphical representation of 2 eyes and 1 nose. It is the wise sight at the highest level, but the dualism of the bad and the good eye can dim the sight and blur the mind.

‘Ain means “eye” (עין) and “source” (עין). Kabbalists say that ‘Ain is “The eye of the soul looking at…sanctity…”. In fact, the eye is a symbol of Wisdom for Kabbalah. ‘Ain represents the desire for Wisdom.

70 as the Elders chosen by Moses (Exodus 24:1), the Sages of the Sanhedrin, and the 70 Faces of Torah.

‘Ain is teaching us the importance of Wisdom in our lives. Wisdom as the capability to see the reality without being affected by distorted emotions.
